The Tool is designed to remove the slug from a coined Hole in the Control Armmounting Bracket to facilitate wheel Alignment. Recently, the coining operation in the Control ArmmanufactuRing process has not been as thorough, possibly a result of worn Tooling. This has caused problems when using J-38794-A to prepare for a wheel Alignment. with the Hole insufficiently coined it is difficult, sometimes impossible, to remove the slug with the Tool per the service manual procedure. The Tool is not a metal cutting device. It is designed to pull the slug from the inSide out. It is also designed to fail at a Load, specified by GM, prior to distorting the Bracket. Due to that design limitation, Kent-Moore is not able to re-design the Tool that will work on insufficiently coined Brackets. We have learned that some techs are using a die-grinder or similar Tool to remove the slug, which has proven to be an effective solution. It should be noted that the Tool is no longer covered by the Kent-Moore, SPX lifetime warranty due to the situation described above. Kent-Moore does not plan to develop a new Tool or redesign this one since it is not required on late model vehicles.
